Abstract

Hypertension is a common health problem among menopausal women due to hormonal changes and other associated risk factors. Nutritional status and parity are considered important determinants that may contribute to the development of hypertension during menopause. This study aimed to examine the association of nutritional status and parity with hypertension among menopausal women in Tarai Bangun Village, within the Tambang Community Health Center service area. A descriptive correlational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 76 menopausal women aged 45–55 years selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected through interviews, measurements of body weight and height to determine body mass index (BMI), and blood pressure assessment using a digital sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis test followed by Dunn’s post hoc Bonferroni test. The results showed significant differences in hypertension based on nutritional status (p = 0.003) and parity (p = 0.026). Significant differences were observed between women with normal weight and obesity (p = 0.006), and between primiparous and grand multiparous women (p = 0.031). These findings suggest that maintaining a healthy body weight and monitoring reproductive history are important strategies for preventing hypertension among menopausal women.
